DJ Paul Holden – In his own words

I had the pleasure to interview Mr Paul Holden and have him share some of his life in the DJ box and the dance floor.

He is no longer out there championing the cause of good grooves and vinyl.

Enjoy this time Paul Holden and myself spent on his rooftop, chatting about the feeling you get when THAT track is mixed in, among thousands, but you felt that Paul was maybe playing it just for you.

He is a part of our dance culture that many people who go to bed at 9pm might not understand, but WE were there and so was DJ Paul Holden.

Thank you for the interview Paul…

DJ Paul Holden returns for Jack The House 2

DJ Paul Holden has been working for 36 years as a DJ across Australia. He was behind the Bacchanalia parties during the Dance Party years of 1988-92, which are the sounds that he’ll be playing at Jack The House 2 this Friday night at The Sly Fox in Sydney.

Sitting on his rooftop in Sydney, Paul Holden elaborates on what he’ll be playing in his set and what still excites him about being a DJ. AND about the satin tracksuit outfit that is his secret weapon for this weekend.

Jack The House with DJ Mark Dynamix

November 13th brings a return to the sounds of the Hordern Pavillion parties of 1988-1992. Jack The House is a one off party being put on by DJ Mark Dynamix. Let’s dive into those years and find out what will be on the playlist on the night. This could be a chance to wear those fluro bike shorts again…

Finding Ecstasy with Norman Fox

Norman Fox (that’s him the young together one on the right) has written a coming-of-age novel (Finding Ecstasy) against the backdrop of the late 80s Hordern Pavillion dance parties. He was there and lived it. We took a walk around the Hordern today while sharing some stories and flat out gossip. Join us in your 501s, Doc Martins and padded bomber jackets….

80s Exhibition Powerhouse

The Sydney Powerhouse opened their 80s pop culture exhibit in Novenber & I was there to capture some voices from the vault. DJ Scott Pullen, RAT Party Guru Jac Vidgeon, Wally the sexbomb barmaid & DJ, and Lance Leopard a blogger from a time before blogs. Even found time for a lost classic from 1989.

Everything Starts With An E

Maynard & DJ Geoff (the shopkeeper) dig into the dark but enlightened times of 88-94, the Hordern Pavillion dance party years in Sydney and reveal another lost classic. Was the E stronger? It would explain the fashion at Raves. This episode we start the E Quiz sensation Are You Peakin’, Like We’re Peakin’

The Hitman

Travel back to a time without temperance. The early 90s when Geoff The Shopkeeper & Maynard were in the middle of The Hordern Pavillion dance party scene. These stories will stir memories or serve as a warning to others. 1993 brought us The Hitman from AB Logic. It may sound like a car alarm now, but it was everywhere the hip dance crowd and their drugs were in 93.

Peace (in ya valley)

Geoff The Shopkeeper and Maynard were some of the thousands in the middle of the Hordern dance party scene in Sydney 88-92. Revisit the music, drugs and gossip of a “time that temperance forgot”. Sabrina Johnson had a killer dance floor anthem in 91 with “Peace”, just don’t confuse her with Rozalla.

Fools Gold with Master Tom

Master Tom of Sydney’s Hellfire Club was just a guy taking E & having sex in the toilets when he first heard The Stone Roses @ a R.A.T party. Find out what a R.A.T party was and why we miss them.
