Hordern Pavilion Dance Party Special

Hordern Dance Party Special with Maynard from Hordern Pavilion Dance Party Special. Maynard

With the recent passing of DJ Paul Holden I was inspired to post the entire hour of a Special I did on Rewind on Channel V in 2001. Using footage originally shot at many dance parties by Charles Amsden in 1988 – 1990. I put some memorabilia and the clips of all the original house tracks. (although I know the Rozalla track is a remix, but we couldn’t find a broadcast version of the original Everybody’s Free at that time.)

Enjoy, the show is dedicated to DJ Paul Holden and everyone else who was there.

DJ Paul Holden returns for Jack The House 2

DJ Paul Holden has been working for 36 years as a DJ across Australia. He was behind the Bacchanalia parties during the Dance Party years of 1988-92, which are the sounds that he’ll be playing at Jack The House 2 this Friday night at The Sly Fox in Sydney.

Sitting on his rooftop in Sydney, Paul Holden elaborates on what he’ll be playing in his set and what still excites him about being a DJ. AND about the satin tracksuit outfit that is his secret weapon for this weekend.

Weird Al Yankovic fans in Sydney go nuts

Weird Al Yankovic played the Enmore Theatre in Sydney on Saturday night to a packed crowd of chanting Weird Al fans. I got in the middle of them and found out that Al is more loved, by more people, of all ages than ever.

The dress code for the night was loud and the headgear; tinfoil.

Thanks to everyone for allowing me to accost them with my microphone, and to the man himself Al.

Maynard rocks the Painters & Dockers

The interview starts off well, with Maynard referring to the legendary band as the Painters Dickers, which could absolutely only be a cue card typo and definitely not a crass moment from the usually chaste Maynard.

This is no ordinary sit-down interview; instead you will find an action-packed rollercoaster, perfectly recreating the experience of Melbourne’s legendary Painters & Dockers playing Sydney for the first time in 25 years at The Factory on Saturday 8th August. Maynard got up, played his trombone with them and spoke with the band, and captured the excitement of what was a blustery night of Dock Rock.

This show is lewd and contains ribald language.

Hellfire Club Pops Cherries at The Shift

This show is ribald, lewd and not for the faint hearted.

It was a decadent night of openings and virgins as The Sydney Hellfire Club took over its brand new venue, the storied Midnight Shift. Success was guaranteed long before the doors swung open, with a crowd at least a hundred deep waiting to ascend the staircase and take their place in kinky history.

Mistress Ultra (the badass boss) didn’t mind professing to a few opening night nerves, revealing that a new venue is like being a virgin all over again. I couldn’t help likening it to resewing the Hellfire Hymen. Plenty of exciting moments await you inside, including a ridiculously hot combination of Christa Hughes, Nicky Bryson and DJ Sveta describing an Australian first double-stacked suspension performed by DV8 House.

Come… spend the night with Maynard at the Hellfire Club.

Happy Kinky 22nd Birthday, Sydney Hellfire

The Sydney Hellfire Club opened at Blackmarket, in Camperdown in March 1993 and celebrated its 22nd birthday. The evening brought back together many pervy people from across the club’s long, strange history. Join us, will you? Do I really need to tell you this isn’t safe for ANYONE to listen to.

Madd Club live from The Record Crate

An Easter treat for Planet Maynard listeners. We cross live to a 2 hour slice of the Madd Club doing their thing in Glebe last Sunday afternoon. Swoon to the sound of Sunday Afternoon Fever. Maybe in the entire 2 hours you’ll hear 1 song you like.

80s Exhibition Powerhouse

The Sydney Powerhouse opened their 80s pop culture exhibit in Novenber & I was there to capture some voices from the vault. DJ Scott Pullen, RAT Party Guru Jac Vidgeon, Wally the sexbomb barmaid & DJ, and Lance Leopard a blogger from a time before blogs. Even found time for a lost classic from 1989.
