Sunday Afternoon Fever – Brady Bunch Special

From September 1992 it’s Sunday Afternoon Fever celebrating all things Brady in a bumper 3 hour episode with music, interviews and a special Brady Maynard’s Mastermind. We also let the people of Australia decide, by voting for their favourite Brady member.

Mrs Fred Sinatra of Las Vegas is along to give advice on love, Lance of The Hollywood Kids has gossip about the opening night of Fire Walk With Me, as well a the exciting new Drew Barrymore TV project with Aaron Spelling 2000 Malibu Road.

We speak with Christopher Knight, Peter Brady himself about being the fictional middle child and how he feels about the opening night of The Real Live Brady Bunch.

The Soloway sisters join us with Warren Coleman to talk about the afternoon they came up with the idea for The real Live Brady Bunch show in their lounge room (their mum thought it would get them in trouble). Jill Soloway has since gone on to write Six Feet Under among many other projects and Warren has won an Oscar.

Andrew G takes questions from the listeners on all things Brady while in between we hear some music from Caligula, Screamin” Jay Hawkins, Def Fx, The Shamen, Utah Saints, Cracker, Stray Cats and more. Quite the afternoon of listening ahead of you.

We miss you Florence Henderson.

Video – Maynard Avengers 60s Special

The Avengers was one of the greatest UK crime fighting shows ever. Emma Peel and John Stead took on cold war camp enemies every week with style.

Maynard presents some great 1960s music clips with the help of Tabitha on Channel V from 2000.

Beatles, Stones, Lulu and some great action packed scenes from The Avengers themselves, you’ll be amazed at what Maynard can do with an umbrella.

Dag Quiz 1989

The first ever 5 episodes of Dag Quiz recorded for replay on Maynard weekend JJJ breakfast show. The year is 1989, test your knowledge against our self aware dags. Colin Nicholas, Frogger, May, David, Cathy (from Chester Hill), John (from St Ives), Katrina, Steve, Julie & Bruce. Laurie Zion was score keeper (briefly). Voice Over: Rusty Nails, Production: Chris Norris.

It was called Dag Quiz because Triple J had been running Rock Wiz and I wanted to celebrate the less worthy avenues of pop culture.

Binge listen to all 5 or play an episode a day on your way to work, see if you have what it takes in the quiz show where even winners may be considered losers.

If you think you know something about Village People, Sailor, Boney M and feel you are ready for some value judgement on Bananarama, this was the show for you.

This is the first time these episodes have been heard since 1989, so go easy on all the contestants, who I consider pioneers in a brave new world of self awareness. I want to all thank you very much for being part of such a wacky, fun show.

Ratcat celebrate 30 years

Ratcat celebrated 30 years as a band with Toys Went Berserk & Spod at The Factory in Sydney on 14th October. Maynard was on hand as DJ/MC and the night went a bit nuts. Hear from Simon Day, Nic Dalton, Andy Jarvis, Coo Bennett and a lot of over excited fans.

Go onstage, upstage and backstage with me. Your name is on the door.

What Double J Should Sound Like 113

Latest What Double J Should Sound Like show has plenty of variety from Campbell, Jay and myself.

I brought along A Certain Ratio, B-52s (live, from that new album pictured), Colourbox, Tenpole Tudor and a rare Ringo Starr track (aren’t they all?)

I have included the B-52s live track as they are touring with Simple Minds in February 2017. See you there, but never at a winery gig, as you will hear us discuss in this show.

Show 113 also includes Shackleton, The Beatmasters and Hot Chip. Enjoy!

Totally 80s audience bloopers- This is why we can’t have nice things

When the Totally 80s show was in Sydney at the Enmore Theatre last week I had a great idea.

Just go out into the crowd at Enmore Theatre and ask them how they liked the show, I thought. What could go wrong? I thought.

It’s a great video, but probably not for the right reasons.

In the immortal words of philosopher Adam West; “Some days, you just can’t get rid of a bomb.” (or drunks)

This is our blooper reel from that video shoot by Richard Saunders. The final drunk free edit we used is here
