Maynard, Mrs Sinatra and Bob Downe on Foxtel

Maynard was the host of Planet Fx, a Sci-Fi comedy/geek/music/variety show every weekday afternoon for 2 years when Foxtel first started in Australia in 1995 & 1996, before he went of to host music television (remember when that was a thing) on Red Tv and Channel V.

Here are two clips from the Planet Fx show one with Bob Downe (Mark Trevorrow) singing Xanadu (to a backing track, he is not lip syncing) and one featuring a phone call to a Triple J regular Mrs Fred Sinatra of Las Vegas (who is actually lip synced, as you’ll see from the video).

Sunday Afternoon Fever – Brady Bunch Special

From September 1992 it’s Sunday Afternoon Fever celebrating all things Brady in a bumper 3 hour episode with music, interviews and a special Brady Maynard’s Mastermind. We also let the people of Australia decide, by voting for their favourite Brady member.

Mrs Fred Sinatra of Las Vegas is along to give advice on love, Lance of The Hollywood Kids has gossip about the opening night of Fire Walk With Me, as well a the exciting new Drew Barrymore TV project with Aaron Spelling 2000 Malibu Road.

We speak with Christopher Knight, Peter Brady himself about being the fictional middle child and how he feels about the opening night of The Real Live Brady Bunch.

The Soloway sisters join us with Warren Coleman to talk about the afternoon they came up with the idea for The real Live Brady Bunch show in their lounge room (their mum thought it would get them in trouble). Jill Soloway has since gone on to write Six Feet Under among many other projects and Warren has won an Oscar.

Andrew G takes questions from the listeners on all things Brady while in between we hear some music from Caligula, Screamin” Jay Hawkins, Def Fx, The Shamen, Utah Saints, Cracker, Stray Cats and more. Quite the afternoon of listening ahead of you.

We miss you Florence Henderson.

Totally 80s Tour, Part 2 – Stacey Q

Second in the series recorded as I hosted the Totally 80s tour across Australia in July, this show takes you from Perth via Adelaide to Hobart. We hear from excited fans as well as Terri Nunn (talking Giorgio Moroder), Paul Lekakis (giving lifestyle tips), Robyn Loau (taking you on a journey to the darker side of Adelaide) & Stacey Q.

Stacey Q had two huge worldwide hits in 1986 with Two of Hearts & We Connect. She was under an illness cloud for some of the tour and I managed to interview her in-between bouts of flu.

Does it sound like we are having fun?

We are.

The tour continues…

Joanne Accom & Jack, Jack, Jackie

Joanne had the biggest selling Australian single of 1999 with Jackie. A song that Blue Zone, Lisa Stansfield’s band had covered. Joanne’s version sold over 70,000 copies worldwide.

Joanne Accom had belted out the vocal as a know-it-all 18 year old and now finds herself touring in 2016 with The Vengaboys, Tina Cousins, Whigfield, Sonique & Crystal Waters.

How did that happen?

But more importantly, why does she had a bag of Sonique’s shoes at her house?

Video – Maynard Avengers 60s Special

The Avengers was one of the greatest UK crime fighting shows ever. Emma Peel and John Stead took on cold war camp enemies every week with style.

Maynard presents some great 1960s music clips with the help of Tabitha on Channel V from 2000.

Beatles, Stones, Lulu and some great action packed scenes from The Avengers themselves, you’ll be amazed at what Maynard can do with an umbrella.

Howard Jones Australian tour 2016

Howard Jones is touring Australia with Kim Wilde in a tour that starts today. So let’s have a chat with Howard about his early years manufacturing cling wrap all the way through to his latest release Engage. Find out what Mr Jones has in his lounge room and what radio station he listens too.

Here is my interview with his tour buddy Kim Wilde

All you need to know about where to see Howard Jones & Kim Wilde.

Whigfield on tour across Australia

Whigfield (Sannie Carlson) best known for Sexy Eyes & Saturday Night is touring across Australia in November with The Vengaboys, Crystal Waters, Sonique, Tina Cousins & Joanne. So it’ll be a huge 90s party around the country, cheesy and loud.

Whigfield explains why she is happy to be touring Australia at this time of year (the English weather) the dangers of Swiss Chocolate and what we can learn about making video clips from Duran Duran.

If she can get her stage outfit through Australian customs, it’ll be a party every night (with chocolate).

Here are the tour dates that aren’t sold out across Australia.

Dag Quiz 1989

The first ever 5 episodes of Dag Quiz recorded for replay on Maynard weekend JJJ breakfast show. The year is 1989, test your knowledge against our self aware dags. Colin Nicholas, Frogger, May, David, Cathy (from Chester Hill), John (from St Ives), Katrina, Steve, Julie & Bruce. Laurie Zion was score keeper (briefly). Voice Over: Rusty Nails, Production: Chris Norris.

It was called Dag Quiz because Triple J had been running Rock Wiz and I wanted to celebrate the less worthy avenues of pop culture.

Binge listen to all 5 or play an episode a day on your way to work, see if you have what it takes in the quiz show where even winners may be considered losers.

If you think you know something about Village People, Sailor, Boney M and feel you are ready for some value judgement on Bananarama, this was the show for you.

This is the first time these episodes have been heard since 1989, so go easy on all the contestants, who I consider pioneers in a brave new world of self awareness. I want to all thank you very much for being part of such a wacky, fun show.
