What Double J Should Sound Like 113

Latest What Double J Should Sound Like show has plenty of variety from Campbell, Jay and myself.

I brought along A Certain Ratio, B-52s (live, from that new album pictured), Colourbox, Tenpole Tudor and a rare Ringo Starr track (aren’t they all?)

I have included the B-52s live track as they are touring with Simple Minds in February 2017. See you there, but never at a winery gig, as you will hear us discuss in this show.

Show 113 also includes Shackleton, The Beatmasters and Hot Chip. Enjoy!

Totally 80s audience bloopers- This is why we can’t have nice things

When the Totally 80s show was in Sydney at the Enmore Theatre last week I had a great idea.

Just go out into the crowd at Enmore Theatre and ask them how they liked the show, I thought. What could go wrong? I thought.

It’s a great video, but probably not for the right reasons.

In the immortal words of philosopher Adam West; “Some days, you just can’t get rid of a bomb.” (or drunks)

This is our blooper reel from that video shoot by Richard Saunders. The final drunk free edit we used is here

Shatner Over Australia 2000

William Shatner (Barbary Coast), Richard Hatch (Battlestar Galacticia) and many other sci-fi notables came to Sydney in 2000 for a convention in the Sydney Entertainment Centre. The first press conference had some wacky questions, but this time not from me.

This is from my Rewind show on Channel V, Foxtel that was a weekly retro music show every Friday & Saturday night.

Check out that WTF look on the Shatsters’s face…

Bunga Bunga 29 Tim Ferguson & Maynard

Bunga Bunga 29 finds Tim Ferguson & Maynard deep in thought and lentil burgers at the Madame Frou Frou cafe. This show has them debating a new national tune while Tim reveals he has no idea who Dita von Teese is.

Our Burning Social Issue gets you naked as Tim discovers the historical roots of the Greens party, and won’t let you forget it (hint; lederhosen).

We thank our Patreon supporters for this show, please join them.

Hordern Pavilion Dance Party Special

Hordern Dance Party Special with Maynard from Hordern Pavilion Dance Party Special. Maynard

With the recent passing of DJ Paul Holden I was inspired to post the entire hour of a Special I did on Rewind on Channel V in 2001. Using footage originally shot at many dance parties by Charles Amsden in 1988 – 1990. I put some memorabilia and the clips of all the original house tracks. (although I know the Rozalla track is a remix, but we couldn’t find a broadcast version of the original Everybody’s Free at that time.)

Enjoy, the show is dedicated to DJ Paul Holden and everyone else who was there.

Weird Al Yankovic fans in Sydney go nuts

Weird Al Yankovic played the Enmore Theatre in Sydney on Saturday night to a packed crowd of chanting Weird Al fans. I got in the middle of them and found out that Al is more loved, by more people, of all ages than ever.

The dress code for the night was loud and the headgear; tinfoil.

Thanks to everyone for allowing me to accost them with my microphone, and to the man himself Al.

Maynard Breakfast show 1989 – The Year That Wasn’t

Every Friday on Maynard’s Triple J breakfast show, The Week That Wasn’t reminded listeners what happened on the show that week. This was the end of year version for 1989.

With the voices of The Bay City Rollers, Collette, Bernard King, Mr Squiggle, ABC Director David Hill, Village People, Peter Castaldi, Fred Schneider, Tom Jones, Bill Collins, Bjorn Again & Kate Cebrano.

Bananarama Interview 1989

April 1989 & Bananarama tour Australia for the first time. Maynard chats with Jacquie O’Sullivan (who replaced Siobhan Fahey when she left to do Shakespears Sister) about Melbourne nightclubs, safe sex and heavy drinking during their World Tour. This is a real time capsule from 1989. You don’t get so many questions about condoms these days.

Jacquie O’Sullivan, Sara Dallin and Keren Woodward turned up at Maynard’s Madd Club on the Monday night in Sydney, that is where the above photo was taken, about 2am.
